TRADITIONS| Rosca De Reyes

Rosca de Reyes: A ring shaped sweet bread decorated with crystalized slices of fruit or candied fruit, with three or more little dolls that symbolise "Baby Jesus" on the inside, a tradition that comes from Europe, mainly Spain and France, a tradition that has grown with all of us.
For kids this day means the coming of the Wise Men, that leave gifts if you were a good kid, you just have to leave your little shoe by the tree on the night of the 5th.
Everyone gathers around the table, everyone's laughing and talking about their life, some are thinking where would be the perfect spot to take a slice of, no one want to find the little doll, who finds it has to pay with "tamales" on the 2th of February.

This year was different, instead of celebrating on our own, we invited our family to a reunion, my little nephew came along and with him a lot of laughs and talking filled the house. No one wanted to take the first slice so I stepped on and did it, luckily I didn't got the little doll, my auntie, cousin and her wife did, sadly, but that means that they will be joining us on the day of the SuperBowl to have lunch and for dinner "Tamales".
We had a great time and I hope this tradition stays with us for a long time and we can keep doing it as years pass by, sadly the Wise Men didn't left anything, let's hope next year they do.
Mayte.
