Of the Bookshelf| Don't Hate the Player... Hate the Game

Noah Sullivan has known Jake since kindergarden when Jake duct-taped Noah to the chair, since then they became best friends, they have stayed together through the good and the bad, but everything changes when Jake suddenly dies and instead of finding porn or pot in his room, he founds an engagement ring.
Noah engages in this mission to find the owner of the ring, but in this process he founds out that Jake might not be the player he praised to be, through Maddie he discovers that he had a secret life and not everything was as he thought.
What I liked:

  • The idea of the plot: The secret life of Jake and how everything takes a turn as Noah starts to discover different faces of who he thought was his best friend it's an amazing idea if it would have been well managed.
What I didn't like:
  • The story line, nothing happens, even Noah stops investigating for some chapters which is the main point of the book, but then it goes back and forth with other characters.
  • The characters were boring, they had the generic personalities, everyone was shocked by the dead of one of their close friends yet almost no one shows pain and they engage in the weirdness arguments.
  • The ending, the mystery solves, the men grow, the couple forms and everyone is happy, just that, nothing else to hold on to, nothing that will make you remember this book in a month time.
I had high hopes for this book, I saved it for a really long time and when I started to read it, my opinion changed drastically, it took me a really long time to be able to read it and to keep up with the story, for some reason I found certain chapters to be too long and boring. The title promised me a lot and I didn't even see the connection with it. If you are startin to dive into Y/A you may like this one but for me it's a 2.5 out of 5.
Mayte.
