Of the Bookshelf| Kulti

Sal Casillas a well known soccer player has been known for many things like her playing skills or temper, but never for falling over someone... until now. As the season starts her team decides it's time to hire a new coach, someone she might or might not fancied when he was the face of Germany's soccer team and maybe the greatest player of all time.
It took her less than a week for Sal to realise that maybe she'd idolized Kulti a little bit too much as his quiet personality is showing to bring nothing to the team, but she's got to show better judgement when she finally gets to meet the real Kulti, a man that has gone through a lot.
What I liked:
  • Sal Casillas is a badass woman. It's one of those empowering characters that teach you to go for those dreams. She's portrayed as a real woman and there's something to admire about her.
  • The slow burn, because it's Mariana Zapata's signature writing style, it's shows how Sal goes from loving, to hating, to loving once more and it really helps you to see how Kulti develops as a character. You get to meet the characters.
  • The character's problems, you see an underpaid athlete with a bad past that marked her career, a retired athlete that's pushed to do things just to stay relevant in the industry and families that either support or only look out for money.
What I didn't like:
  • The ending, it was too short, I needed more of them and I didn't get it.
It's maybe my favourite book from Mariana Zapata, it has everything plus an empowering message to women out there, it shows how athletes need to have two jobs to pay the bills, it shows an struggle and how they overcome it together and how they grow. For me it's a 4.5 out of 5.
