21in21

Learning to develop good habits and break bad ones is the key of highly effective people. It's said that you can either develop or break those habits within 21 days, making your brain forget about the bad ones and only keep the good ones or the ones we choose to keep.
The first part is to recognise those bad habits we want to break, they can be either emotional like complaining about everything, or more physical ones, like smoking, overeating or overusing your phone around people. Make a list of the things you want to change, think it through, you'll be amazed of how many things can come out of it.
Now, look at your resolutions, the ones you made at the beginning of the year and see how many you've accomplished and how many you need to work on. Most of us haven't even got halfway through the list and we are almost halfway through the year.
Right now you might be feeling a little bit discouraged, or like you have disappointed yourself, but remember that even when things are going bad, they can always get better, so instead of feeling sorry for yourself, make a list of the things you have already done and the ones you can change.
Through this 21 days we are going to commit to the idea of improving ourselves, to becoming the best version of ourselves and making ourselves proud without obsessing if things don't go as planned. Remember that even when making excuses is bad for you, you are only human and mistakes are allowed, as long as you keep trying.
It's going to be hard, it's going to take time and by the end you may feel like you are done with it, but you are going to have to remember that the work doesn't stop here. After this you are going to have to keep on working on those habits and those goals you've set yourself every day in order to keep those good habits and create new ones.
Every day I'm going to share a new habit to develop, this can be easily modified to fit into your lifestyle as not everyone has the same problems or the same goals as me. What's important to remember is to not only do it for that day, but to carry it from there and keep on remembering to do it every day without exception.
Some are going to be a lot more "seasonal" as you won't be able to do them every day but more like once every two months, like "going through your closet and choosing at least one item you don't wear to donate". The important part is that remember to do them.
I'll be keeping an online journal on Tumblr, I'll be sharing my daily experiences and how I get on with those tasks, we will see how well I do. Without anything else to say, let's start this new project together shall we?
Mayte.
