It's that time of the year again, the sun is finally out and as soon as you open your blinds you realise the amount of dust you've been collecting over the past three months of winter, so change into your comfy clothes, select your favourite music and start with the dreaded spring cleaning.
Step 1
Don't do it all at once, fight the urge to take everything out at the same time, this will call for more mess and you won't see a near end. Go in sections such as closet, under bed, furniture, bed, if you are doing only your bedroom. In case you are doing different rooms tackle it by areas and storage areas and then clean the big picture.*Note: Start by doing something that will pump you up to keep going, for me it's always the closet or washing your duvet and sheets. *
Step 2
Create "Other room", "Donation" and "Trash" bins, so you can find a home for everything as you go and in the case of other rooms you will be able to remember where it goes instead of going back and forth. Be brutal in this step, don't keep anything that doesn't represent who you are now or that doesn't fit in any area, someone may be able to give it better use than you.
Step 3
Vacuum. Wipe. Wash. Clean as much as you can, go for every surface you can reach, you don't know how long it will be until you clean this much. Take your time and do it well, the satisfaction of having a completely clean room is awesome. Don't forget to vacuum under your bed, you'll be amazed by how much dust can be collected under there.
Step 4
Don't give up after cleaning, organise, put everything back into it's place and make it look pretty but functional. It's an extra step that will make your life easier and this way it's going to look amazing and you'll be pumped to keep it that way for longer than a week.Remember that spring cleaning is something that only happens once a year and it feels pretty awesome to sleep in a fresh set of sheets in an all clean room. Don't do it as a task, take it as time for yourself and instead of thinking how much you have to go, think how beautiful and clean everything looks now. It takes time, almost all day but it's worthy and a good habit you should apply for every season (I try to do it on every season change and once you get started is not as easy to keep up with). And after all that hard work you can go out, enjoy the sun and keep on dreaming.
Mayte.
