Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeman hate each other or at least they think so, sitting in front of each other every single day they try to break their facades as one of them is the serious, joyless and even uptight and the other one is full of joy, colourful clothes and a perfectly applied red lipstick.
But somewhat all of that tension has to come out and everything begins to change when Lucy decides to use her most daring outfit and realises that maybe Joshua is looking her differently.
What I liked:
- Lucy's character. There's no problematic background, there's no evil ex boyfriend, she's a fighter and knows what she wants, she's a hardworking woman and I felt really inspired by her, despite how silly the character sometimes was (We all have our moments).
- The story feels natural. There was only one time when I said "This doesn't happen", contrary to many Y/A books, it doesn't has that crazy storyline filled with things everyone wished happened to them, it's pretty straight forward and describes a natural relationship between them.
- The reliability. It's not often that you find a book in which you feel connected with one of the characters to the point where you know you've gone through something similar and I get that this doesn't happen to a lot of people, but you can certainly feel that the story somehow relies on common problems.
What I didn't like:
- The beginning and the end: Not because of the story but because for me there was a lot of unnecessary information and although it was a good way of building up the story, it was all a bit too much.
This is fabulous book that promises something different for us Y/A lovers that know how the story is supposed to go, it changes a lot of rules and as I said, the story is reliable and touches day-to-day problems every millennial has gone through but at the same time it doesn't feel the need to write about a terrible background or immense life changing experience, it's a story that develops naturally. For me it's a 4.5 out of 5.
Mayte.
