Samantha Smiles' life as a grown up isn't exactly what she expected. She had plans along her childhood best friend Renee Montgomery, who now is getting married and moving across the country. Without much choice left she's obliged to drive to be present in her wedding with the boy she grew hating along her best friend, Renee's brother, Tristan Montgomery, her first kiss, her first love, the only secret she has ever kept from Renee.
What I liked:
- Samantha's lack of perspective on her relationship. Like many other women out there she settled with a partner she didn't love because she thought she deserved him and nothing better.
- The dynamic between the two main characters even when there were unfinished problems in there. During most of the story they manage to get along the way without much worry.
- Tristan's side story. He's portrayed as a woman's man, but he ends up being an honest man with a crush on her sister's best friend. He changes her outlook by telling the truth.
What I didn't like:
- The amount of flashbacks thrown in there, it was like the main character wasn't able to move on from that one night and that one kiss.
- The fallout, it was long and unnecessary to involve their family members and even wedding attendants into something they were fixing along the road trip.
It's light, it's easy and it's worth the try. It fills all the cliché boxes but with a tiny twist in there. The writing style is outstanding. For me it's a 3.5 out of 5.
