Random Facts about Christmas...

Another year, another gift, another turkey... I tend to be curious and as it is Christmas time I though that knowing more about Christmas would be interesting! So lets start:

  • The traditional three colours of Christmas are green, red, and gold. Green has long been a symbol of life and rebirth; red symbolizes the blood of Christ, and gold represents light as well as wealth and royalty.
  • Telling “scary ghost stories” is an old Christmas Eve tradition that has died out in the past century
  • All letters addressed to Santa in the United States go to Santa Claus, Indiana.
  • Christmas trees usually grow for about 15 years before they are sold.
  • It is estimated that the single “White Christmas” by Irving Berlin is the best selling single of all time, with over 100 million sales worldwide.
  • The first printed reference to a Christmas tree was in 1531 in Germany
  • Approximately 30-35 million real (living) Christmas trees are sold each year in the U.S.
  • The earliest known Christmas tree decorations were apples.
